Sometimes You Have to Make Room for a Plot Twist…

this is not Bandit

Melanie came to me with a question that kept her up at night.

She likes gentle rides. Slow trails. Quiet moments.

But her horse Bandit… he had other ideas. He loved that cowboy feeling. Speed. Quick reactions. Fast turns. Working hard. Feeling his body move.

Melanie wasn’t exactly thrilled. She’d had a scary fall from Bandit before and was nervous about getting back on. She didn’t want to spend her weekends hurtling around barrels at top speed.

So she found herself asking some really hard questions: Am I actually the right person for this horse? And what does he want?

He showed us ranches. Dust. Western competitions. Barrel racing — over and over. He loves working, he told us. Working hard. Being part of a team, turning fast, doing things well. Trail rides are… fine. But his mind needs to be busy for it to be worthwhile.

He wasn’t knocking Melanie. When we asked about their relationship, what came through was just… pure love. He really loves her. But he wanted more than gentle rides.

He also didn’t want to move to a new stable — he’d already moved a lot and didn’t want to figure out new horses.

It left Melanie with a dilemma. What do you do when the thing your horse wants isn’t the thing you want?

Then life did something interesting.

Circumstances outside Melanie’s control meant Bandit had to move to another stable. And guess what they did there? Barrel racing.

Even more unexpectedly, the owner of the stable fell in love with Bandit. She bought him. Which might sound like the end of the story. Except it wasn’t.

Because Melanie still gets to see him. She still gets to ride him. And Bandit gets to do the thing he’d been showing her he wanted to do.

It turned out there was a way for everyone to get something they needed.

A little while later, Melanie sent me a message. Bandit’s new mum had taken him to a city fair — 16 horses competing. And Bandit came second in barrel racing and cattle cutting.

Second place. Out of 16 horses 😳

But the best part of her message was this: his new mum said he was so happy.

And that made Melanie’s heart happy too.

She said: “Thank you so much for the session you led me through. All of this is possible for him because of that session.”

She thought she had to choose between keeping Bandit and letting him do what he loved.

And the universe gave both of them what they wanted 😃
